It's official, the most exciting football club... Blackburn Rovers!!

12 August 2009. A recent study by Wrigley's Extra that observed football fans tension levels during matches discovered that Blackburn Rovers are officially the most exciting team in the Premier League. This was achieved despite an average record of just 40 goals and finishing 15th.

The high excitement levels, that surpassed fans of all the Premier League elite clubs, was put down to the team's frustrating performances and failure to meet expectations. Fans of the top clubs experience less anxiety due to expecting to win and more often than not experiencing a win.

The tension levels were measured by fans pulse rates and level of stress (cortisol). Some of the fans were experiencing pulse rates of 132 which is just 5 short of what you would expect on a theme ride!

All we can say, is that if they think the Premier League is exciting they should measure fans in the Championship, League One and Two. As a Norwich City fan I can assure you that after just 2 games this season - a 7-1 home defeat and a 4-0 away win - no fan in the Premier League can experienced quite such a rollercoaster ride!

Thrill scores:

Blackburn Rovers 189
Arsenal 188
Manchester United 187
Wigan Athletic 186
Bolton Wanderers 185
Liverpool 185
West Bromwich Albion 183
Chelsea 180
Manchester City 178
Stoke City 177

For those following their International team in the World Cup - the qualifiers reach their conclusion in September and October.

Credit crunch predicted to impact football attendance

28 June 2009. Forecasts suggest that Premier League attendances will be impacted this year due to the credit crunch as fans choose to attend less games. Interestingly though this may not be a trend repeated in Championship or leagues One or Two where tickets are relatively cheaper.
